I-Kisan, Nagarjuna Fertlizers & Chemicals Limited, an innovative company that harnesses the power of information technology to address key problem areas plaguing the agriculture value chain.
For selling produce, many farmers rely on middlemen who often cash in on the farmers’ lack of price awareness. To improve transparency and returns, Lexys helped I-Kisan implement a customised IVR solution at 20 market committees. Farmers across the state of Tamilnadu can now call a dedicated IVR helpline and know the latest commodity prices at their nearest regulated market.
One of the major problems plaguing the agriculture sector is the existence of middlemen who slice off a large part of farmers’ earnings by charging exorbitant commissions for helping sell their produce. These middlemen exploit information asymmetries at play in the agricultural market.
With this solution, farmers can call a dedicated helpline and, guided by Tamil voice prompts, know the latest commodity prices at their market. They can also make complaints and give their feedback to market administrators. Based on the commodities added at each market, the IVR menu adjusts automatically and pulls the latest price information.
With the built-in reporting module, administrators can generate reports on call history and activity.
• Farmers can call the helpline to know the latest prices in a cost-effective and convenient manner, anytime and anywhere.
• Improves the transparency and price awareness of farmers.
• The solution can be set up easily for a low cost using standard hardware.
